Gabriel was an eight-year-old boy subjected to torture and abuse by his mother, Pearl Fernandez, and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre.
On May 22, 2013, Gabriel was rushed to the hospital after paramedics responded to a call about a child not breathing.

During his hospitalization, doctors discovered that Gabriel had suffered numerous injuries. Dr Alyssa Rake examined Gabriel in the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Dr Rake found that Gabriel had no response to stimuli and could not breathe independently, concluding that he was brain-dead with no brain function.
Gabriel had suffered severe injuries, including a broken skull, multiple rib fractures, a BB in his lung, and various bruises, cuts, and burns.
Doctors at the Children’s Hospital declared Gabriel brain dead, and he passed away two days later, on May 24, 2013. The official autopsy revealed that Gabriel died from blunt force trauma, neglect, and malnutrition.

Gabriel Fernandez was an eight-year-old boy who lived with his mother and her boyfriend for eight months. Unfortunately, during that time, he was subjected to unimaginable brutality.
The systematic abuse included physical beatings, being forced to eat cat litter, faeces, and spoiled foods, and being burned with cigarettes. He was shot with a BB gun, pepper-sprayed, and had his teeth knocked out with a bat.
To make matters worse, while Gabriel was being abused, his mother and stepfather would laugh, according to his siblings.

The abuse continued until Gabriel stopped breathing, and his mother called 911 and took him immediately to the hospital.
When the first emergency personnel arrived, they found him on the ground naked with several injuries. Despite the hospital’s best efforts, Gabriel was declared brain dead and passed away.
Pearl Fernandez and Isauro Aguirre were arrested on May 23, 2013. Pearl was charged with felony child endangerment, while Isauro Aguirre was arrested for attempted murder.
When Gabriel died, Fernandez and Aguirre were charged with first-degree murder with exceptional circumstances of torture, and prosecutors pursued the death penalty.
In the end, Pearl pleaded guilty to her charge on February 15, 2018, as part of a deal to avoid the death penalty. She was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.
Meanwhile, Isauro Aguirre pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder with exceptional circumstances of torture.
Gabriel Fernandez Siblings And Family
Gabriel Daniel Fernandez was born in 2005 to his parents, Arnold Contreras and Pearl Fernandez. However, three days after Gabriel’s birth, his mother decided she did not want to keep him.
Gabriel was given to his uncle Michael Lemos Carranza and his partner David. Gabriel’s grandparents, Robert and Sandra Fernandez, were also a part of his family.

When Gabriel was four years old, his grandfather objected to the same-sex relationship between Carranza and Martinez.
As a result, Gabriel was removed from their care and moved in with his grandparents. He lived with his grandparents for three years; they loved and cared for him.
In 2012, Gabriel’s mother and her boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, regained custody of him despite the family’s concerns for his welfare.
